• Nick Woodcock BA (Hons) BArch (Hons) RIBA ARB

    Nick has worked on a variety of projects in a range of sectors, and in particular has considerable experience in the commercial and education sectors with 39 projects completed from preschool through primary, secondary and higher education including facilities for post graduate and post doctorate research. Higher education projects have been completed for universities such as Warwick, Leicester, Surrey, Sussex, Derby, Bournemouth, Aston, Leeds and Anglia Ruskin. Some have included work on office spaces, residential, hospitality, performing arts and sports accommodation as well as a plethora of research, teaching and learning spaces.

    Completed project sizes Nick has worked on in the UK have ranged from less than £100k to £22m. These have included projects extending listed buildings projects in conservation areas, AONBs and green belt development with complex planning requirements. He has delivered many refurbishment and extension projects and has worked on a number of new-builds on brownfield sites. Projects Nick has undertaken have been published in the architectural press and have won awards including Civic Trust Awards & LABC awards.

    Nick has delivered schemes as client’s architect in a traditional role, as a main contractor’s architect when delivering as part of construction team in framework bids/ delivery; in Design and Build (D&B) projects with consultant switch/novation; in D&B projects with a retained Technical Advisor (TA) role client side. He has been the 'retained architect' for an independent school since 2009.

    Qualifying as an architect in 1998, Nick has worked in a variety of practices from a small residential practice in London, a multi-national multi-disciplinary organisation in Singapore, and for 13 years he worked for a UK top 25 practice, where he first worked alongside Andy and Ian. He was made a studio lead in 2007 and managed the Birmingham office team and projects until leaving to start up architecture:nw in 2014, and subsequently forming CoARC.

    Nick has developed skills in all areas of project delivery from engagement and brief building through to on site technical support and contract administration. Whilst capable in all areas his strongest skills are in conceptual but pragmatic sketch design, technical delivery and production information detail, collaboration with the wider professional and construction team, and on-site support as well as the contract administration role.

    Outside of architecture, Nick has been a governor at his local CofE primary school; he also enjoys playing hockey for a local club side and helps with the training for the U8-U12 players at the club.

  • Andy Fleming BA (Hons) DipArch ARB

    Andy has worked on a range of diverse projects over the past 20 years including education (all tiers), workplace, community, residential, and leisure/retail for both private and public sector clients. He is experienced designing and running both individual building projects and programmes of work requiring a strategic in-depth understanding of stakeholder requirements and client procurement gateways. Andy is experienced in design advisory roles, including the former BSF Programme, chairing cross discipline Design Quality Working Groups for the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) Framework, and a former advisor for Birmingham planning department ‘Design Review Panel’ with a remit to critique the design of prominent planning submissions.

    Having qualified in 2003 Andy has worked in small and large multi-disciplinary architectural practices, working on projects of all scales & size up to running high-end leisure / retail projects c.£100m in value. This has provided a broad and well rounded experience in the design and delivery of building projects. Andy has strong project management skills and has experience working on a number of contractural and procurement routes, including traditional contracts, Design and Build, plus partnering framework agreements.

    He is also a tutor and enjoys teaching and being a visiting critique at Birmingham City University School of Architecture and Design, as well as previously tutoring on the RIBA Studio Post Graduate Course at Oxford Brookes University, School of Architecture. He enjoys sport, particularly playing tennis and keeping fit and healthy in general.

  • Ian James BA (Hons) MArch ARB

    Ian has a broad range of experience in education projects from primary schools through to higher education. He has worked on projects from inception through to completion in the role as project architect. Ian has experience of leading a team in the delivery of technical packages for both traditional and design and build contracts. He has a wide ranging technical understanding which has assisted with both detailing buildings and solving problems during the construction phase.

    Ian has worked on a wide range of educational projects including the redevelopment of ex-military accommodation for the new all through school for Heyford Park Free School; the new entrance and reception to the listed Clarke House building at Birkdale school; and the development of a 2 storey extension to the existing science block at King Edward VI School Birmingham. Like Nick, Ian also worked with Bouygues and their consultant engineers to develop Bouygues own baseline standard schools further to the release of the EFA's baseline design standards for schools.

    In his spare time Ian is a keen cyclist and has designed and fabricated his own steel framed road bike along with designing and making cycling clothing and accessories.
